A Fairyland Trip My dream came true because I met Santa Claus for the first time. He is very tall and so big, about double my height! Imagine 250 people took photos of him!! Needless to say, all Arctic Challenge activities was not that difficult for any Usher. You do not get hurt when falling over on fluffy snow unlike concrete ground! When you ride a snowmobile, it is a challenge as you can go slow or fast, but you cannot tell if the ground is the same level all the way so you need to be cautious of hidden white snow bumps!! Deaf Arctic Challenge had the opportunity to include the "Usher" award for the first time after a few years running. Gareth, my husband, and myself were delighted to receive an award as a Lapland souvenir on the Presentation Evening. To finish off the amusing story between Nick Sturley and myself on the last day of our return flight back home, we took a husky dog sleigh trip. Nick decided to take a lead to ride the sleigh so I sat excitedly on a warm fur seat with six huskies for a ride around the block. We set off on a smooth ride, I had pleasure in exploring the surroundings and watching the dogs hurry along. At the end of the trip,I happily got up to pat Nick but he looked so puffy. He explained that he lost control with his legs between the bars of the sleigh and slipped off and was dragged in the snow whilst the sleigh was still moving and he could not stop the brake or put his legs back till the end of the trip but I did not have any problems feeling wobbly or interfering!!!! Poor old Nick as the front of his body was covered in snow! (From Nick) - Yeah, I was doing OK with my foot firmly on the bars and was controlling fine despite the balance difficulties. Midway through, I suddenly slipped and i fell and got dragged all the way round and I couldn’t let go either as my hand was strapped on the handle!. I tried very hard to get myself back, but the speed of the running husky dogs made it very difficult. It was like something out of a Donald Duck cartoon... |
