Wet n’ Wild! Sarah Reed During the Seattle visit, there was a prearranged visit to the Sense HQ office on a really wet Friday morning of 15th September. Everything went smoothly until Mother Nature changed it... Sarah Reed, the Seattle in London 2000 Project Leader explains what happened. It was a very wet day and whilst the Americans were learning about Sense's work, the fluorescent lighting kept flickering and we could not understand why it was like that until one member of staff came in and announced that there was a power cut and that the lighting were being operated on emergency supply! It meant that the rest of the building and also the Finsbury Park area were without power! Finsbury Park Tube station was closed and so was the British Rail station! Even the phones were not working which meant we could not phone and find out alternative travel arrangements! So I and Janice Floyd led the group in the driving rain to the nearby bus station and the group caught the bus. Because the group was large, the bus driver became impatient as we all tried to get on and he tried to drive off! Someone ran to the driver and told him to WAIT! Finally everyone got on and in wet outdoor clothing we travelled across London to Sloane Square where we got the Tube back to the hotel. Funnily enough the Americans thought it was great fun and an adventure so thanks to the Electricity Board for turning it from a well run morning into a fiasco and giving the Americans some merriment! |
