Right time, wrong time!

Roy Staines, Croydon, Surrey.

Christine and I went to the BDA conference in Derby and we stayed at Midland Hotel which is a quite Usher-friendly environment. After surveying and getting familiar with the nice spacious room, as we unpacked our cases to put stuff in drawers and cupboards I realised that I had forgotten to bring our Shakeawake alarm. After debating the best workaround, we settled on having the curtains slightly open and I was confident that I would wake up at the right time.

On the second night I had a bit of a nightmarish and blockbuster of a dream, then I suddenly woke up from this deep dream and wasn't sure if it was morning. I switched the bedside light and looked at my watch, my eyes being a bit blurry I 'read' that it was nearly twenty past seven.

Feeling wide awake I got up to go to the bathroom then got ready to have a shower and looked around to make sure I know where the bath towels were. I scanned around but couldn't see them as their colour was similar to the wall. I went round and woke Christine up gently and put her light on. I was puzzled why the room was pitch dark thinking we hadn't left the curtains slightly open I went stumbled over to where I thought the window was and realised it was still dark outside.

I went back to where Christine was and looked at my watch again in the bedside light and realised to my horror that it was actually nearly twenty to four in the morning. I quickly switched the light off, stroked Christine's head, turned the bathroom light and stumbled back into my bed. I thought, 'Oh well, life of Usher' and made myself cosy and got back to sleep fairly quickly.

The next morning Christine moaned that she couldn't get back to sleep at all and had a throbbing headache! Oh dearie me!
