Ooops! Jeremy Morgan, Essex One night, after watching a football match between West Ham and Plymouth at West Ham Football Club, my friend who had earlier promised me that he would be able to drive me home after the match, changed his mind. He apologised that he changed his mind because he wanted to arrive at a deaf club, in the south, on time instead of giving me a lift home. Arrrggghhh!!! That left me in a strange area in a dark night! I respected his decision so after collecting my stuff from his car, and started walking zig-zag (as usual!!) all the way to the station. I always have the habit of walking by the shops at night because they give more safety rather than walking by the side of the road. But unfortunately the match had already finished, just seven minutes before and I was facing a huge crowd of fans walking towards me. I decided to pass them by walking in the road... Ooops! I fell down....into a manhole!!! Everybody looked down at me and I was so embarrassed! What did they think of me at that time? I dread the thought! I was pulled up by the fans and I thanked them for their help. I wondered if I had used a white cane, would they have understood in the first place and may even have stopped me falling down the hole? I believe that using the white cane is very important as it could help you to prevent injury to yourself. |
